A note on mental health

Vent Mode is a venting simulation app. Not therapy. Not a crisis resource. It's for everyday frustration, not serious distress.

Who we are

Vent Mode is an iOS app ("the app," "the Service"). This privacy policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it. Our contact email is hi@ventmodeapp.com.

What we collect

When you download and use the app:

  • Session audio — voice audio recorded during sessions is sent in real time to OpenAI's Realtime API and is not retained by OpenAI after the session ends. We do not store your session audio.
  • Purchase records — session pack type and purchase date, processed by Apple and RevenueCat. We do not receive or store payment card details.
  • Usage data — scenarios launched, modes selected, session durations, and in-app navigation events. Used to understand how the app is being used and to fix things that are broken.
  • Device identifiers — anonymous device ID used for crash reporting and analytics. Not linked to your real-world identity.

What we do not collect

  • We do not store your session audio or transcripts. Each session is independent and ephemeral.
  • We do not collect health or medical records.
  • We do not access your contacts, camera, photos, or precise location.
  • We do not sell your data to third parties.
  • We do not use your data to train AI models.

How we use your data

  • To run the app and deliver voice sessions
  • To verify your session credits and purchase state
  • To diagnose crashes and fix bugs
  • To understand how users interact with the app so we can improve it

Third-party AI provider

Vent Mode uses OpenAI's Realtime API to power voice sessions. During a session, your voice audio is sent directly to OpenAI over a secure connection so it can generate the AI character's spoken responses. OpenAI does not retain session audio and does not use it to train models. Subject to OpenAI's Privacy Policy.

Other third-party services

  • Google Firebase — authentication and backend services
  • RevenueCat — in-app purchase management
  • Sentry — crash and error reporting

Each service has its own privacy policy. We do not share your data with them beyond what's necessary to operate the app.

Data retention

Session audio is not stored. Usage and crash data are retained for as long as needed to operate and improve the app. You can request deletion of any data we hold about your device by emailing us.

Children's privacy

Vent Mode is intended for users 17 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used the app, contact us at hi@ventmodeapp.com and we will address it promptly.

Your rights

You can request a copy of data we hold associated with your device or ask us to delete it. Email hi@ventmodeapp.com. We respond within 30 days.

To revoke microphone access: iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone → Vent Mode.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and note the change in the app. Continued use after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
